On a very warm and sultry evening, we were relieved to find that Snodland Community Centre was blessed with air conditioning! We had been booked to perform there as the guests of the Snodland Ladies Club.

We arrived early to set up and then took our seats to wait for "committee" formalities to take place before we started. However, we were taken off guard when we were introduced straight away – they didn’t want us to be hanging around, they said.

We played a variety of music, interspersed with a few interludes where we provided some information about the instruments and the origins of Kettle Bridge. We firstly made sure everyone was awake by playing the rousing Concert Overture. The ladies were in good voice and sang along to the well known songs – Over the Rainbow, Moon River, Jungle Book medley and Oom Pah Pah. We aired the Claire Wren composition Bristol March for the first time in public and this was very well received.

There was a lot of interest in the instruments afterwards – no new recruits though! – and we hope to return to the group, maybe for a festive singalong.
