Five go to Stilton

Five Kettle Bridge Concertinas members travelled to Stilton near Peterborough for a concertina playing day. Our hosts were Squeeze East Concertinas who hold an annual event led by Paul Barrett and which draws players from far and wide. 2024 is his 20th year of leading this popular event and this year saw 40 players playing the whole range of concertinas.

The music was varied and challenged our sight reading skills as we hadnít seen it in advance of the day. Players were of all abilities, from accomplished and experienced to beginners, but there was something for everyone to enjoy and be challenged.

Music included The Rose, The Kesh Jig, The Floral Dance, Highland Cathedral, and I Canít Help Falling in Love with You. The music filled the vast village hall and we loved the big sound, obtainable only by having a substantial number of players.

Three smaller groups played a couple of tunes each during the afternoon. Kettle Bridge played Swing Low and The Great Escape to an appreciative audience.

We must give our thanks to our Squeeze East hosts and, in particular, Paul and Sally Barratt who, we are pleased to say, are also honorary Kettle Bridge members. It was a fun and challenging day in equal measures.
