Report and photos by Steve C.

In 2015, we played at an all-day fundraising event organised by Janice Cook supporting the Heart of Kent Hospice, in memory of her mum Betty Hopkins. This has now become a regular item on the calendar so we were very pleased to participate in this year’s event.

As before, it consisted of a full day of musical performances, featuring a wide variety of styles and instruments. This included guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, violins, trumpets, pianos, saxophones, brass ensembles, singing groups of various sizes and full bands. And Kettle Bridge Concertinas, of course!

On this occasion, we had a smaller group of musicians performing but this made it more intimate and everyone could hear everyone else, making it easier to keep together. We performed a set of popular tunes, namely

  • Trumpet Tune
  • Streets of Cairo
  • Moon River
  • Great Escape
  • Do You Hear The People Sing? (from Les Miserables)
  • When Johnny Comes Marching Home + Battle Hymn of the Republic
  • Trumpet Voluntary

With our performance finished, we felt duty bound to support such a good cause even more by stopping to have a hot drink and a piece of cake!

Take a look at Janice's fundraising page to see how much has been raised so far. Please feel free to make a donation while you are there and see some photos from the day, including one of us!
