We were invited, with other local music groups, to take part in the first East Farleigh Fete de la Musique. Apart from the concertinas, we had Rock and Roll, Folk, Samba (drums), 70’s, a Dad’s band and Country, all represented in a three-hour show during the afternoon.

Whilst everyone was being entertained, there were the usual stalls to browse around, including one selling Pimms! There was plenty of seating provided so people could comfortably sit and listen until the very end.

We decided that this was a heaven-sent opportunity to let the locals know all about us and the wonderful English concertina. Clifford provided a gazebo for us to set up our stall and also parked his (our?) van next to it. We brought club concertinas and flyers to get the locals to sit down a have a go. Quite a few tried their hand and said they would get back in touch for lessons. Even if they don’t it was good local exposure.

The Thursday group put together a selection of well-known tunes, to appeal to a mixed audience, and we had a very good response. The only downside was that it was a gusty day and, without amplification, some of our tunes were borne away on the breeze.

Getting involved in these local events is well worth while and brings us to the attention of other event organisers.

Thank you to Sue for organising the whole thing and to our beginners and various other halves who helped get things ready and manned the stall.
