On Friday 17th March, six Kettle Bridge members made the journey to Kilve in Somerset for the annual WCCP workshop weekend.
We were spoilt for choice with the quality of the workshops on offer – John Kirkpatrick leading the anglos, Simon Thoumire taking the English workshop, Iris Bishop working with the duet players and Claire Wren leading the band. Most of us chose the band workshop with Claire, but Liz ventured into Simon Thoumire’s workshop and had a great time in there.
With the expertise available to use, we had the opportunity to learn and play with the very best. Saturday evening’s entertainment was a delight – songs, dances and tunes that we had learnt, and the privilege of listening to the tutors play. Then to the bar for more playing and singing, and a little drinking!
Sunday finished with a showcase of music from the various workshops, culminating in a very emotional rendering of the John Hammonds's arrangement of “Over the Rainbow”. Most people journeyed home after the cream tea, leaving a dozen or so to enjoy another dinner, a good bar session and hearty breakfast before heading off on Monday morning.
A great weekend of learning and meeting up with friends! Thank you to all the organisers!
