The West Malling Farmers' Market is held each month in the town's High Street. For the November event, Kettle Bridge Concertinas were invited to provide some seasonal music.

We congregated by the Christmas tree at the south end of the market from about 09:30 and were ready to start on time at 10:00. We had an excellent turnout of 15 players plus a couple of collectors, despite the rather chilly weather. Everyone had dressed appropriately for the occasion — lots of layers but with a splash of Christmas colour.

The market had a steady stream of shoppers and browsers who also appreciated our music. We played a mixture of tunes including Christmas carols and old favourites like White Christmas.

There was a short break after the first run through of the repertoire and an opportunity to use the facilities of the pub or to have a warm drink. The second part of the performance was a bit shorter so that we finished soon after our scheduled time of midday. After fond farewells, we all went home to enjoy the warmth of our homes!

This was an excellent event. Thanks go to the organisers of the market for inviting us and to the players who turned up to brave the elements. Finally, well done to the helpers who collected a good amount for the group.
