Kettle Bridge Concertinas were very pleased to support Janice Cook's event to raise money for the Heart of Kent Hospice in memory of her mum Betty Hopkins. It consisted of a day of continuous musical performances by a wide variety of musicians in the Grove Green Community Centre. There were also plenty of refreshments and other diversions available in the hall including a very popular cake stall.

We had a 20 minute slot in mid afternoon and we started to congregate about half an hour before our designated time. The clever use of two performance areas meant that we could set up while the previous act was still in progress. This wasn't without incident however as John had a nasty fall off the stage but thankfully he was not too badly hurt and gamely stayed on to take part in the performance.

The organisers had managed to keep pretty well to schedule so we started our slot only a few minutes late. The pieces we played were

  • Concert Overture
  • When the Red, Red Robin
  • Bristol Harbourside
  • Tip-Toe Through the Tulips
  • Amazing Grace
  • Roses From the South
  • Liberty Bell
  • Thaxted
The final piece was so well received that we played an encore! This was, of course, completely unrelated to the fact that the next act were not quite ready when we finished.

The event proved to be an excellent fund-raiser for a very worthwhile charity and we were honoured to do our bit to help. Please visit Janice's page on Just Giving to see how much has been raised.
