Christmas means just one thing for Kettle Bridge Concertinas — Sunday morning busking in Maidstone town centre — and this year was no exception.

After a slow and soggy start on the first Sunday and an abandoned mid-week gig, we finally got into our stride with the second Sunday session. We had a new pitch outside Marks and Spencers and there was an excellent turn out of both players and collectors. Once the band had worked out the best seating arrangement and had decided that perhaps having a conductor would be beneficial, things really took off. The shoppers obviously enjoyed our playing and we even took a few requests. If you want to see for yourself what our performance was like, just click here.

Our third and final appearance was on the 21st and, once again, the weather was kind. The band devised a new seating plan that allowed everyone to hear each other better and this meant that Margaret could play rather than having to gesticulate with her baton. The result was an improved performance and a better sound. I am not sure if it was because of this or just that there were more people shopping but we collected significantly more money.

Anyway, well done to all the players, turning out in all weathers, and a special "thank you" to the collectors and other supporters who came along. We raised a total of £260 to help keep the group going and growing, thanks to the generosity of the Maidstone public.

Merry Christmas to you all.
