On Sunday 8th January, Kettle Bridge Concertinas met as planned for lunch to celebrate New Year. We chose The Bull at East Farleigh as the group had expanded. Liz had joined the band, and we also have a beginners section, three of whom joined us for the party and we had the exclusive use of the function room.

We were twenty-six in number as we sat down to starters of soup, pate or prawn cocktail followed by a carvery meal of beef, pork or nut roast with desserts of apple pie, banana split and ice cream all washed down with plenty of drinks and many toasts for our celebrated conductor MFD.

We all signed a birthday card for Liz, organised by Sally, and Pat presented it while we sang ‘Happy Birthday’.

After the main course Pat and Sally led the party in a ‘squeezing’ session, including many old favourites of the band as well as simple tunes for the beginners to join in. This worked to clear the room of non-playing partners except those still eating dessert(s).

For the finale the band played ‘Under the Ringwood Tree’, the piece from the Maidstone Music Festival. Partners were prised from the bar to act as audience.

A great time was had by all and it was a wonderful start to 2012.
