A new venture for Kettle Bridge Concertinas and a long term objective of our plan when making the bid for Grassroots Grant funding was to extend our work into the community. We wanted to provide free entertainment to some of the more senior citizens living in Maidstone. We produced some songbooks so everyone could join in and practised a lot.
On Wednesday 14th September, some of Kettle Bridge Concertinas (Sandy, Carol, Pat, Tricia, Sally, MF-D) led the community singing of some old time favourites, such as My Old Man, All the Nice Girls Love a Sailor, It’s a Long Way to Tipperary and many others. Carol proved herself particularly adept at leading the singing whilst the rest of us accompanied on the concertina. Sandy also provided solo songs and poems. This was a great success with many positive comments received from the audience.
Kettle Bridge Concertinas were subsequently invited to a different OAP lunch on Tuesday 25th October 2011. On this occasion Sandy, Pat, Tricia, Sally, Sue and David were all able to participate. Once again a great time was had by all.
We look forward to doing more of this kind of thing in the future.
